HOPE's Farm Managers
Ryan Clary
Ryan
Clary was born in Chardon, Ohio, a small town northeast of
Cleveland. He has 3 younger brothers and 1 older brother.
His first job was shoveling horse poop at his uncle’s
barn when he was 14 years old. He joined the Navy for 4 years
after highschool, then moved to Jacksonville, Florida to start
school. After a completing his A.A. Degree at community college,
he moved to Gainesville to work on his B.A. at UF. This is
where he came in contact with HOPE. After volunteering with
HOPE for over a year, Ryan was extremely excited to move in
and be one of the farm managers. Though he has since withdrawn
from UF, he hopes that during his time with HOPE he can perform
his duties to the best of his abilities and make sure that
things run smoothly and look good.
Becca Huy
Becca Huy was sitting in the saddle before she could walk.
She enrolled in 4-H at age seven, then Pony Club where she
found the sport of three-day eventing in which she currently
competes her horse Montana.
Becca came to Gainesville three years ago as an “undecided”
freshman at UF. After her first week of classes she suffered
a Traumatic Brain Injury while competing. During her recovery
she saw a speech pathologist for a short time before returning
to UF a month later.
A new interest in the field of rehabilitation gave her a
direction for her education. After taking an entry level course
she found her place in the Communication Sciences and Disorders
department and is graduating this summer with her bachelor’s
degree. She plans on applying to graduate school in February
and hopes to stay on with HOPE in Gainesville and continue
her education at UF to become a speech and language pathologist.
During her first year at HOPE Becca plans on organizing and
providing the consistent quality care that the horses need
to be comfortable at their job. She also wants to observe
and learn as much as possible about equine assisted therapy,
which seems like a perfect combination of her lifelong love
of horses and her newfound interest in speech therapy.
